French botanist. André Thouin was a French botanist and gardener. Born in Paris, he studied under the naturalist Bernard de Jussieu and was horticulture chair at Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle. He studied grafting and agronomy, and was a pioneer conservationist. Thouin became a friend of and correspondent with Thomas Jefferson.
